Harlem Stage quietly wrapped up the 10th anniversary of its E-Moves dance series over the weekend. Don’t be fooled by the rather turgid title of the Friday evening program, “Legends and Legacies,” at the handsome Gatehouse theater. Frankie Manning was 14 or so. He and his friend Herman Jackson were on their way to church in Harlem on a Sunday afternoon. They spotted a group of kids their age gathered outside an elegant building at Seventh Avenue and 126th Street and asked what they were up to. Inside, they were told, was the Alhambra Ballroom. Frankie Manning, the Ambassador and Master of Lindy Hop, Dies at 94

Frankie Manning, a master of swing-era dance who went from the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem to Broadway and Hollywood, and then after a long break enjoyed a globe-trotting second career as an inspirational teacher and choreographer of the Lindy hop, died on Monday in Manhattan. He was 94 and lived in Corona, Queens.
